Links & Help - FAQ

How do I send feedback, comments or just contact Boro-Stat for any reason?
You can leave feedback or send comments to Boro-Stat very easily and quickly via the Boro-Stat email link or you can contact us via the Boro-Stat Blog.  Select the Links/Help button above to navigate to either email or blog. Please remember can not work on Boro-Stat 24/7 (though we would like too) so please allow a couple of days for a reply.

How often is Boro-Stat updated?
There is nothing worse than visiting a website which has not been updated.  I have visited many Boro sites that have not been updated for several months or even years.!  At Boro-Stat the aim is to update within 24 hours of a Boro game or, a game that affects a boro result.  Major updates take place on a weekend daily, minor updates also take place during the week depending upon who has played.  As I try to attend most home games and some away games, please live with me if a few charts are a little late now and then.  If we are on holiday or cannot update for any other reason please see the "Website Status" window (left) for updated informations.

How large is the Boro-Stat website?
Boro-Stat currently holds about 200 graphs which update as the results come in together with tables, results etc on top.  With past data, results and tables, the site now runs to about 2,000 pages of Boro stats.  Expansion is taking place all the time and as an example we have 10% more charts in season (2008/09) than we did the previous season. This trend will continue as the aim of making Boro the best charted team in the premiership continues.  We added our first EUROPE section during the season 2004/05.....(about time).....and remember this section as with all other boro-stat pages will be available for many years to come, giving easy access to boro data at the click of your mouse.  We also archive previous seasons graphs and charts now so going back in time to recheck something is even easier with Boro-Stat.

How do I change my monitor resolution to the recommended values?
When you are in windows (95/98/ME/2000/XP or Vista) and on the desktop, go to a blank part of your screen, right click on the mouse button, select properties box, select settings box, at screen area change to MORE or 1280 x 1024 an alternative is 1024 x 768.  [IF YOU HAVE A MONITOR OF 19" OR ABOVE WE NOW RECOMMEND RESOLUTION OF 1280 X 1024].  Selecting the recommended setting will allow you to view far more information on your screen.  For the best graphics you should change the colours bar - see below - to 32 bit resolution.  If you click on the advanced button you can also select monitor refresh rate.  We recommend 70 - 75Hz or above for a steady screen with no flickering.  If your graphics card will not take this setting leave in default or put back to the previous setting.

What modem/speed/dial up/broadband service is recommended for Boro-Stat?
Any modem will download Boro-Stat data, however 56K modems are the fastest of the dial up versions.  In the UK and around the world now dial up modems are increasingly seen as yesterdays technology - giving way to faster broadband services.  ISDN lines of 64k or 128k are quicker than dial up but again thes are now giving way rapidly to broadband connections.  From 2005 1mb &  2mb broadband connections have become standard across the UK.  Roll out of 4mb, 8mb 12mb and 32mb is taking now commonplace and rolling out to vast sections of the country quickly as we move through 2008-2009. The faster your broadband service the faster pages will load from the internet/Boro-Stat.  From 2008 much higher speed broadband connections are being introduced and 20mb for example is currently already available in the Stockton area.  The future, 2009-2010 holds some major advances in broadband connections speeds - these faster services will enable "instant" page formation and even pages with high levels of images/video contact being almost instantly available at the click of your mouse.

Boro-Stat currently uses an "upto 32Mb" broadband connection supplied by "BE Unlimited" to download data from results services.  Boro-Stat then manipulate the data for onward transmission to its own ISP and servers supplied by 1&1.  We specifically selected 1&1 as our host service provider as they have extensive green credentials and our website is hosted from renewable energy.

Can I link my own website to Boro-Stat?

YES.....if you link with Boro-Stat we will link back to you.....providing your site is "clean" (non adult, 100% family) and football related.  Please email me at the address shown in the Links/Help section on the top menu bar.  Boro-Stat does not carry commercial advertising and links to commercials/advertising only sites.  We refuse many requests for links on the basis that some sites are clearly driven by commercial concerns alone - this is not our policy (review our policy/privacy statement above).
On some search engines I find Boro-Stat listed as http://boro-stat.connect-2.co.uk/ and some links are very old, out of date, or do not work, why?
When Boro-Stat first started (March 1999) I used my ISP's original website space.  However as the site grew and I used far more graphs, the need for space increased.  Some very old pages still remain on the original ISP's server and open to the internet.  You should not be able to tap into these but on the odd occasion a search engine may still list the odd page.  To make sure you always link to the original and latest site data always link to http://www.boro-stat.co.uk/

The Boro-Stat Name?
The URL
www.boro-stat.co.uk was registered to me on 12th March 2000 and the site expanded rapidly shortly afterwards.  Although I was testing Boro-Stat for about a year before full launch via "connect-2" webspace.

Notice is hereby given that all methods to protect the registered name and identity of Boro-Stat will be used via UK (English) courts should copywrite information be broken.  The name borostat (without the - ) is also registered to myself in case of spelling errors and visitors will be directed to boro-stat website on an automatic basis.  Again all protection methods via English/UK courts will be used to protect the boro-stat identity.  Recently (2005-6) the URL
www.boro-stat.com has also been fully registered by me and again all protections mentioned above also apply to this name.  Boro-Stat is one of the longest continuously running websites devoted to Boro on the internet.
Who is behind Boro-Stat - who is the webmaster?
Boro-Stat is more about the "content" rather than the "author" however, here is a little info......
I was born in Middlesbrough in 1954 and currently live in Ingleby Barwick, Stockton-on-Tees, UK.  I am a Red Book Season Ticket holder  (I know red books no longer exist but you get my drift) in the North-West Corner of the Riverside Stadium.  I am a regular contributor to the Boroml mailing list at yahoo groups and my nic there is colin@borofan.  I am always please to hear from you so drop me an email.  If you disagreed with any information on Boro-Stat please let me know and I will recheck that data.  Correct data is in all our interests.!!!

Final Word
I hope you enjoy looking through the pages of Boro-Stat and I hope you use and find it of interest to check that fact you were sure of anyway.  I am amazed at the number of visitors Boro-Stat receives and of the emails asking me for extra info on this or that result from all corners of the world.  While I cant hope to duplicate the official site info, I do hope this site adds to the Boro experience.

All the best - Colin.
